Edward Materson, Artist and Sculptor

John Singer Sargent has been an inspiration to me as he has to so many others.
In order to enjoy and understand his methods I have at times copied his works.
These drawings are charcoal copies made for my own enlightenment.
By copying his work I can get a feel for the sweep and intensity of the strokes and the pressure
needed to achieve the strong masterful values.
